Pigeons, Love Them or Love Them:a brief history of the ubiquitous Rock Dove

Renowned author Andrew Garn presentation is a lively, visual walk through the wonderful world of the Rock Dove (Columba livia). We’ll explore many facets of pigeon-dom, from their striking beauty and surprising diversity to the secrets of flight dynamics, fascinating anatomy, and centuries of human–pigeon connections.
Garn, author of The New York Pigeon, brings stunning photography and stories from the streets of New York and beyond, including a peek at his pigeon pilgrimages around the world. By the end, you might just find yourself a little obsessed… and looking up every time a pigeon flies by.
Andrew Garn is a native New Yorker, photographer, and author of twelve books, including The New York Pigeon(PowerHouse, 2018 & 2024), Subway Style, Wildflowers of NYC (Cornell University Press), New York Art Deco: Birds, Beasts & Blooms (Rizzoli), and most recently, Brooklyn Arcadia: Art, History & Nature at Majestic Green-Wood(Rizzoli). His photography and writing have appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Fortune, Forbes, Photo, Stern, El País, Audubon Magazine, Interview, Vogue, Elle Décor, Metropolitan Home, and many other publications. Garn has received a Fulbright Scholarship, served as a U.S. State Department Visiting Artist, and been an artist-in-residence at Zion National Park and Central City, New Orleans. He has also been awarded the Graham Foundation Architectural Fellowship and the JM Kaplan Fund Furthermore Publication Grant. Garn studied at Stuyvesant High School, graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY New Paltz, and pursued advanced studies at the International Center of Photography and the New York Botanical Garden.
