Everglades Day is the premier outdoor festival scheduled each year on the second Saturday of February. Audubon Everglades conceived the idea in 1998 and the project became a cooperative effort with the A.R.M Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and the Friends of the Loxahatchee NWR. This festival has attracted over 60,000 attendees since the year 2000. The 2018 attendance was a record 4615 people.

Everglades Day’s purpose is to educate the public on the critically important wetlands which are the last remnant of the Northern Everglades in South Florida and to provide a fun day for both adults and children.

Among the many activities planned are: Guided Nature Walks, Canoeing, Archery, Animal Olympics, Crafts, Fishing Clinics, and Games for Children, Food Trucks and Music. Exhibitors and demonstrations will include: Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, the Palm Beach Zoo, the Florida Herpetological Society (native snakes), Lance Warley, wildlife photographer, the Okeeheelee Nature Center’s Raptor Chapter (live raptors), golf cart tours of the Loxahatchee Impoundment Landscape Assessment (LILA) area.

Dr. Frank Ridgley from Miami Zoo, will speak on Florida bats; Dr. Jerry Lorenz from Florida Audubon will be talking about rosette spoonbills; Alana Edwards of the Atala Chapter of North American Butterfly Association will be giving a presentation on butterflies; Alyssa Boge from the Seminole Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum will be talking about Seminole Indian connections to the Everglades; Ashley Lawrence with the Florida Fish and Wildlife-Conservation Commission will be talking about and showing non-native reptiles introduced into South Florida, and the Plein Air Palm Beach artists will be painting and exhibiting their art throughout the day.

New at Everglades Day will be cultural and historical exhibits with representatives from Yesteryear Village, A Time Remembered, Gladesmen, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wildlife trailer with full mounts, and the Seminole Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museaum.

Join the 20th anniversary celebrating America’s Everglades.
