SUMMARY:HawkWatch with David Simpson
DESCRIPTION:Discover the world of hawks! Join us at John D. MacArthur State Park on Sept 27\, 9:00 am. Perfect for all ages. Don’t miss it!\n\n\nEvery fall\, Florida welcomes thousands of birds from all over as they make their way south for the winter. While many of these birds stop for a bite to eat along the way\, some are in trouble\, including hawks. \nThe Raptor Population Index Project\, which has been studying migration for the past ten years from Panama to Canada\, recently shared some important news. While species such as bald eagles and vultures are improving\, others like sharp-shinned hawks and northern harriers are declining. Hawks are large\, daytime hunters that help keep nature balanced\, so these changes are concerning. \nThat’s where the HawkWatch program plays a vital role. HawkWatch is a citizen-science initiative where volunteers count migrating raptors at key locations\, providing invaluable data to track population trends and guide conservation efforts. \nBut here’s some good news for you!
