SUMMARY:Florida Scrub Jay Walk
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a short walk as you witness the behavior of these endemic birds.\n\n\nIn collaboration with Johnathan Dickinson State Park\, we are thrilled to promote the Florida Scrub Jay Walk\, an opportunity to explore the unique habitat of the Florida scrub jay (Aphelocoma coerulescens). This bird species is native to North America and holds the distinction of being the only bird endemic to the state of Florida\, as well as one of just 15 species exclusive to the continental United States. \nImportant details for your participation: \nEnvironmental Conditions: Please note that there are no water sources or restroom facilities nearby. Be prepared for potentially hot conditions\, even in January. This walk takes place in a well-documented area where scrub jays have gathered over the years. While sightings are common\, they are not guaranteed as these are wild birds. In the interest of safety\, any nearby lightning that results in audible thunder will lead to an immediate cancellation of the tour. \nGuided Experience: Your guide\, Jim Howe\, will provide valuable insights into the Florida scrub ecosystem and emphasize the significance of controlled fires. During the walk\, you’ll have the chance to spot gopher tortoise burrows and unique plant species found exclusively at Johnathan Dickinson State Park (JDSP). \nMeeting Point: We’ll gather less than 1/4 mile from the park entrance\, along the road leading to the Pine Grove Campground. The route follows a once-paved road\, now designated for pedestrian and bicycle traffic only. The walk covers a distance between 1/4 and 1/2 mile\, over gently rolling open scrub terrain. \nEntrance Fee: Please be aware that there is a $6.00 entrance fee per vehicle. \neBird Observations: For those who complete the walk and wish to share their eBird list\, please send it to Paula at Paula@auduboneverglades.org. Your contributions are greatly appreciated. \nRestroom Facilities: Restrooms are available at two locations: the bicycling staging area at the Railroad Track Crossing (porta-potty) and the Visitors Center\, which is approximately 4 miles into the park (restrooms are available here). \nEvent Schedule: This event is held monthly on the first Wednesday of each month. \nCancellation Policy: If you register but find that you are unable to attend\, we kindly request that you cancel your ticket. This opens up the opportunity for others to join. Your consideration is highly appreciated. \nWe look forward to sharing this educational and enriching experience with you as we delve into the fascinating world of the Florida scrub jay and the unique ecosystem of Johnathan Dickinson State Park. \nPhotographs are a wonderful way to capture the beauty and fun of our birding adventures. We encourage photographers to take photos for their personal use and enjoyment and to share them on social media. By signing the AE consent\, you agree to having your photo taken and used on our social media page.

SUMMARY:Loxahatchee River District
DESCRIPTION:Join field guide Lorraine Morecraft\, as we navigate this woodlands trail.\n\n\nThe Loxahatchee River District is an Independent Special District created by the Florida Legislature in 1971. It is governed by a five-member publicly elected Governing Board. We operate an award-winning facility that collects wastewater from the community and recycles it for irrigation needs\, preserving fresh water supplies for the environment. By engaging the public with relevant and compelling environmental education opportunities\, such as the River Center and Busch Wildlife Sanctuary\, we foster stewardship among residents and visitors. As the leading authority on the Loxahatchee River\, we also spearhead ongoing water quality studies and collaborate on river restoration projects. \nHere are some essential details to keep in mind: \nRegistration is Required: To ensure a seamless experience\, registration is a must. We won’t be able to accommodate walk-ins\, so please register in advance. \nLimited Group Size: In the spirit of creating an intimate and enriching outing\, we’re keeping the group small and focused on bird enthusiasts. \nConsiderate Cancellations: If you register for an event but find yourself unable to attend\, we kindly request that you cancel your ticket. This gesture allows others the opportunity to participate and enjoy the event. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. \n \nPhotographs are a wonderful way to capture the beauty and fun of our birding adventures. We encourage photographers to take photos for their personal use and enjoyment and to share them on social media. By signing the AE consent\, you agree to having your photo taken and used on our social media page. \nThere are no public restrooms here. \nThe closest one is located at McDonald at McDonald’s\, 6760 W Indiantown Rd\, Jupiter\, FL 33458 \n \n \n\n\n \nWe are taking a different path than our previous outing. \nAs you enter the grounds there is a parking lot before a closed gate. We will meet there. \nThere is additonal parking behind the grey building on your left.
