SUMMARY:Audubon Everglades Photography Group presents: Editing for Bird Photography
DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker: Wildlife Photographer Caleb Hoover   \n\n\n\n\n\nWildlife Photographer Caleb Hoover will be demonstrating various post-processing techniques for enhancing bird photography\, using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.  This presentation will feature real-time edits and information regarding responsible editing and how to get the most out of your images.  \n\n\n\nBio: I’m a 17-year-old Birder and Wildlife Photographer based out of the Gulf Coast of Florida. I started birding and documenting the birds I saw when I was 8 years old\, and ever since then I’ve gotten more and more invested. When I was around 13 or 14\, I began to take the photography aspect a bit more seriously. Since then\, I’ve been enjoying the rich process of learning and building on the art of Bird photography. \n\n\n\nThis program is open to AEPG Members. If you are a “Friends” of AE member and want to participate in AEPG\, please register by sending an email stating your first and last name\, email address\, and phone number (inside the body of the email) to: aepgregister@auduboneverglades.org

SUMMARY:Palm Beach County Christmas Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:After a year hiatus\, the West Palm Beach Christmas Bird Count resumes Sunday\, January 2. The CBC\, since its beginning in 1900\, has become a holiday season tradition. National Audubon calls it “the nation’s longest running community science bird project.” Conducting the West Palm count since 1956\, we are able to see long-term trends in our local bird species\, both positive and negative. \n\n\n\nEach count takes place in an established 15-mile diameter circle\, divided up into territories and assigned to count teams. Our West Palm circle stretches from West Palm Beach to Delray Beach\, and includes a portion of the coastline\, as well as a small part of Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. The counters are seasoned\, skilled birders\, as well as those with less experience\, who usually help by keeping the lists. \n\n\n\n2019 saw the second highest number of participants in the history of our local count — 120. Our counters logged a very respectable 149 species. We also made important inroads gaining access to more gated communities within our circle with good bird habitat. \n\n\n\nFollowing the January 2 count\, we’ll conduct our compilation via Zoom the same evening at 7:30. If you feel you can help the effort\, counting or accessing your community\, contact compiler Chuck Weber at cweber4aves@comcast.net. \n\n\n\nHere are National Audubon’s COVID protocols: https://www.audubon.org/news/christmas-bird-count- compiler-announcements \n\n\n\nHere’s a map of all count circles — you can zoom in to find and explore our circle: https://audubon. maps.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=ac275eeb01434cedb1c5dcd0fd3fc7b4

SUMMARY:Our Florida Big Year Adventure
DESCRIPTION:In 2020\, birders and naturalists Natasza Fontaine and Robert Gundy set out to break the 2019 Florida Big Year Record of 387 species.  Working full-time jobs\, they spent their weekends driving 60\,000 miles through Florida searching to add as many species as they could to their list.  They birded on and off trails\, in boats in their car and by bicycle. And all along\, they made a particular effort to provide documentation of their sightings.  Because Big Years are done on the honor system\, the pair wanted to provide as much transparency as possible.  Final count: Gundy 388 species\, Natasza 386 species. Success!  To see their full list click here.  Join us as Natasza and Gundy share all their exploits on their great birding adventure!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatasza Fontaine is an M.S. student in the biology department at FSU.  Her thesis is focused on understanding plant diversity and distribution to assess bird habitat associations for conservation management. She holds a visual arts degree from Norfolk State University (B.A.) and a communication degree focused on television production from the New York Institute of Technology (M.A.).    \n\n\n\nRobert Gundy is a Field Biologist\, Florida Natural Areas Inventory at Florida State University (FSU).  Gundy\, who goes by his last name\, is a Florida native and FSU graduate. He has been a wildlife biologist with Florida Natural Areas Inventory since 2016. An avid birder since 2010\, Gundy is also a naturalist with broad interests in the living world\, working with reptiles\, amphibians\, invertebrates\, and flowers.
