SUMMARY:Wakodahatchee Wetlands
DESCRIPTION:Join Cathie Calvert for a guided birding walk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands\, one of South Florida’s top wildlife viewing spots.\n\nGuided Birding Adventure at Wakodahatchee Wetlands \nStep into the heart of South Florida’s birding paradise! Join Cathie Calvert for a guided exploration of Wakodahatchee Wetlands\, one of the region’s most celebrated wildlife viewing sites. \n \nAbout Wakodahatchee\nWakodahatchee\, meaning “created waters” in Seminole\, is a 50-acre constructed wetland built by Palm Beach County Water Utilities. What was once unused utility land has been transformed into a lush habitat supporting a thriving ecosystem. More than 178 bird species have been recorded here\, including Purple Gallinules\, Anhingas\, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks\, herons\, egrets\, and seasonal migrants. \nThe three-quarter-mile elevated boardwalk winds over open water and marsh\, bringing you up close to nesting colonies\, basking turtles\, sunning alligators\, and the symphony of wetland life. During breeding season\, it is not unusual to see dozens of nests filled with chicks just feet from the walkway. \n \nAbout the Event\nDuring this guided adventure\, Cathie will help you spot and identify resident and migratory birds while sharing insights into their behaviors\, calls\, and habitats. Participants of all levels\, from beginners to seasoned birders\, are welcome. \nWe will move at a relaxed pace along the boardwalk\, stopping frequently to observe\, listen\, and enjoy the wonder of wetland wildlife. Bring binoculars and cameras to capture the moments\, and add your sightings to a shared eBird checklist to document the day. \nWhether it is your first visit or your fiftieth\, Wakodahatchee always offers something new to discover. \n \nEvent Details\n\nMeeting Location: Top of the boardwalk (access via the ramp; look for the middle benches)\nAddress: Wakodahatchee Wetlands\, 13270 Jog Road\, Delray Beach\, FL 33446\nCheck-In Time: 9:00 AM\nRestrooms: Available at the meeting point\nAccessibility: The boardwalk is ADA-friendly and accessible for wheelchairs and walking devices\n\n \nAdmission and Parking\n\nFree entry and free parking\nParking may be limited during peak months (February through April).
