SUMMARY:Plants for Birds: Create Your Own Bird Sanctuary Series
DESCRIPTION:Audubon Everglades will guide you through established native plant gardens to learn how to attract and support resident and migratory birds.\n\n\nJoin us as Audubon Everglades takes you on a five-week journey to selected sites with established native plant gardens\, demonstrates how best to attract and support resident and migratory birds\, and helps you visualize which plants would thrive in your own bird sanctuary.  \nEach week you will have the opportunity to ask questions of experts in the native plant field. So\, if you’re trying to decide which native plants to acquire\, or wondering if your plot of land or balcony is big enough\, or which native plants your HOA will most likely allow\, this five-week series will help provide answers.  \nTaking place on various Saturday mornings from January 4 – March 29\, 2025\, we will explore five diverse urban and suburban habitats that nourish birds\, butterflies\, and pollinators with their fruit\, nectar\, seeds and leaves\, and visit two native plant nurseries. You’ll drive through this exclusive Stormwater Treatment Area\, normally off-limits to the public. Located near the Sem Chi Rice Mill off Atlantic Mill Rd./Sem Chi Rd.\, this rare opportunity is made possible through our special partnership with the South Florida Water Management District. Don’t miss this unique chance to explore prime birding habitats and witness incredible wildlife! \nImportant Details: \nCarpooling Information: To minimize the number of vehicles on the berm\, carpooling is required. If you have fewer than four people in your vehicle\, please be prepared to take additional participants or join another car that has open seats. \nNew Registration Process: We’re trying something new to make the event smoother for everyone. Please follow these steps when registering:– Car Registration: If you have a group of four people you plan to carpool with\, please register together as one car. Select the option for a full car during registration. \n– Available Seats: If you don’t have a full car\, please register in any available car that has open seats. This ensures we maximize carpooling and reduce the number of vehicles on the berm. \n\nLiability Release: Every participant is required to print and sign the South Florida Water Management District Liability Release form\, including your address\, and bring it with you to the trip. Please be cautious and watch your step when exiting your vehicle.\n\nDirections: \n\nThe field trip location is west of Wellington.\nHead west on SR-80/98/Southern Blvd.\nTurn west onto CR 880/E Canal Street S.\nAfter approximately 4.1 miles\, turn south (left if coming from the east) onto Atlantic Mill Rd./Sem Chi Rd.
