SUMMARY:Snook Island Paddling Tour
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to get wet while birdwatching! Explore Snook Island on a paddling tour to look for Oyster Catchers and other wildlife.\n\n\nJoin Audubon Everglades volunteer\, Paul Davis\, for a paddle tour of the mangrove islands in central Lake Worth Lagoon\, exploring the islands created by Palm Beach County near the Lake Worth Beach Golf Course via kayak or paddle board. These islands have become the southernmost nesting grounds for American Oystercatchers. Learn about the lagoon and restoration projects while looking for oystercatchers\, other birds\, and wildlife using these habitats. \nMeeting Location: Lake Worth Beach Golf Course Clubhouse (Snook Islands Natural Area) located at One 7th Avenue\, Lake Worth\, FL 33460 \nDifficulty level: Challenging. Paddling in open water against currents and wind. Experience kayaking or paddle boarding and ability to swim. No beginners please. Must be prepared to paddle against currents and potentially strong winds. \nDistance: Paddle 2 to 3 miles. No walking. \nKayaks and Paddleboards: Sit-on-top kayaks are available to rent at the Clubhouse. You can bring your own kayaks or paddleboards if you prefer. The Beach Club. \n\n\n\nTrip Leader: Paul Davis \nPaul spent over 45 years managing our local coastal ecosystems and species including 25 years at the Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM). During that time\, he was involved in ecosystem and protected species conservation initiatives and the local marine and estuarine communities specializing in marine turtles and manatees. Since retiring 10 years ago from ERM\, he worked with Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute (CMARI) as a conservation biologist managing their marine debris environmental education program in Southeast Florida. He also is a member of Audubon Everglades Science Advisory Committee and helps manage their small mangrove forest. Whenever possible\, he spends time in and on the water surfing\, paddle boarding and kayaking.
