This garden trip was a wonderful trip. I could not believe the number of Painted Buntings and Indigo Buntings flying around Leeann’s yard and eating from her feeders. It was so generous of Leeann to allow us to come and see her beautiful yard and gardens. She built the avairy three months earlier just for us to enjoy more birds. It was exciting to see the red-headed woodpeckers. I had not seen any in years. Thanks again to all who came out and supported this event and thanks to Leeann for having us.

From Paton White — Leanne Connelly Sherouse hosted 60 ASE guests at her amazing home. We all had a wonderful and totally relaxing time. She organized a “release” for us — We watched as she released a turkey vulture that she had rehabbed after it was hit by a car and I got to release an immature indigo bunting.that actually escaped from my hands!
After the releases Leanne give a walking tour of the gardens filled with many azaleas, day lilies and cannas that she has hybridized and planted among the wonderful native plants that abound in her gardens.
Leanne’s walk thru aviary filled with wonderful exotic finches was a big hit! What a treat to be surrounded by such lovely birds.
It was a very special day for all who attended and some of her visitors even got life birds. For many the redheaded woodpeckers were a first, and others saw their first indigo buntings. For almost all of us, to be surrounded by a flock of indigos was the highlight. Memorable!
