Crystal Lakes Elementary School is happy to report that the Burrowing Owls produced 5 not 4 owlets and all 5 are on the verge of fledging. Last week Paul Davis (who lives near the school) reported the fledges are checking out the artificial burrows. On May 24, Susan Davis and Mary Young presented two Owl Steward awards at a faculty meeting. One award goes to Mrs. Deven Soto a 4th grade teacher who teaches her mixed grade conservation class about the owls and Florida wildlife habitats. The other award goes to Mrs. Curcio-Greaves, the principal, who refrained from seeking to “mitigate” the owls who made her ball field unusable for many years.
